We enjoy the Christmas season because we celebrate the birth of our Savior. When we were blessed with our Savior, we were blessed with the most wonderful gift we could ever receive. Because of this world that we live in, we fall short every day of pleasing God. We turned our backs on Him, but He never turned His back on us. Through the birth of Jesus, God gave us a way to redeem ourselves. Jesus teaches us everything we need to know about giving. He is the Ultimate Giver. He gave everything for us so that we could have the best gift of all, which is spending eternity with Him.
When we think about Christmas and giving, sometimes we can get caught up in the stress of feeling obligated to give something. Feeling that way steals joy from us. Christmas is a time for happiness and gratitude and enjoying family and friends. When we give because we love seeing the smiles and reactions it brings, it’s a very different feeling. It brings happiness and joy to the person receiving, but the person giving feels the most blessed when the giving comes from a heart of thankfulness and gratitude.
Christmas is Jesus giving Himself to us. Everything we enjoy with the Christmas season is because of Him. We love watching the smiles and enjoy the fun and laughter we experience with family and friends. We don’t have to feel obligated at Christmas when it comes to giving. Jesus gave Himself to us out of love. When we give out of love, we experience happiness and contentment in our hearts.
John 3:16 ESV For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
Deuteronomy 15:10 ESV You shall give to him freely, and your heart shall not be grudging when you give to him, because for this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in all that you undertake.
Romans 6:23 ESV For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus or Lord.
