Jesus Wept

Have you ever wondered what’s the shortest verse in the KJV Bible? Maybe not, but it’s right there in John. While it may be the shortest verse, the impact is monumental.
“Jesus wept”. – (John 11:35 KJV)
How comforting is it to know that Jesus actually weeps? Not that we desire for Jesus to cry. My point is – Jesus weeps with me. Jesus weeps with you. Jesus; God in the flesh wept! How comforting to know that Jesus understands.
We all go through trying times in life, and in those times, sometimes we, ourselves, weep over situations or outcomes that are hurtful, disappointing or upsetting. I’ve been guilty myself of saying “No one knows what this feels like”, because when we’re going through these situations, it many times feels like we’re the only one to ever experience it. When I walk with God, of course I expect joy, but that doesn’t mean that I will never know heartache, loss, or disappointment. What it does mean, however, is that in the hard times, I’ll never weep alone.
Jesus saw the pain that it caused Lazarus’s family when Lazarus passed, and I believe one of the reasons Jesus was weeping was likely because He was empathizing with Mary and Martha. He knew how much Lazarus meant to them, and He was close with their family, as well. When we care about someone who is hurting, we generally hurt as well. Jesus wept because those that He loved, wept. He met them in their sorrow and darkness, just as He meets us today.
There’s a presence that is felt in the midst of pain and adversity when we steadfastly hold close to God. A calming presence that can only be named Peace. Peace that passes all understanding. It almost seemingly comes out of nowhere. That’s when Jesus comes to us with His empathy, grace and power in moments felt of abandonment, hurt, and sorrow – and He could very well be weeping with us in those times.

When a tear is shed; Jesus is close by.

About Dena:
“First and foremost, I’m a Daughter of the King and a long-time Christ follower. I’m also a dog mom who enjoys reading Christian books, cardio drumming, traveling often, and I’m a bit of a techie geek. My life has seen its fair share of curve-balls and I’ve found that I’ve become closer to Christ in each trial as He’s comforted me and shown me that I can solely put my faith and trust in Him. 2 Corinthians 1:4 NLT says “He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.” I feel thankful and blessed for the messes in my life – as they have brought me closer to Him.”
